The Sammus Theory

The Sammus Theory - 525 Power Tracks Featured Band

Too many bands and musicians today have lost the ability to inspire or leave a lasting impression. In an age of fleeting interests and ‘here today, gone tomorrow' bands, it would seem that most acts are lacking all the pieces of the puzzle required to formulate the modern day successful hard rock band.

Enter The Sammus Theory. From the hot and arid landscape of Phoenix, Arizona emerges a hard rock act with all the pieces of the puzzle falling into place.

The five- piece hard band was formed in 2004 by vocalist Sam Hughes, a talented musician who began his musical journey at age seven playing piano. By the time he got to high school Sam had taught himself how to play guitar and bass, and was writing his own material. Soon he had a library of songs written, but no band to breathe life into them. So he took out ads on Craigslist and MySpace in the Phoenix area to see who was out there.

One of the first to reply was guitarist Kyle Welnel, who Sam remembers was “really quiet at first, but when he ripped through the song with no mistakes, I knew he'd be an asset.” The two hit it off and together auditioned and recruited the rest of the current lineup, consisting of Jeremy Tabor on lead guitar, Nick St. Onge on bass guitar, and Dan Johnson on drums.

The sound is heavy and precise, but has a dynamic quality to it that resonates and hooks the listener. The riffs are catchy, the sound is loud, and the emotion is prevalent. It's a recipe for infectious melodies that ultimately get stuck in your head. “I take an idea and work with it,” says Hughes, “which eventually becomes the core of the song. Then we go piece by piece and polish it up to make it stronger, more cohesive. Last we add any details to the parts to spice it up. By the time we're finished with it, we barely recognize what we started with.”

The lyrics are inspired by personal encounters, views, and thoughts of everyday life and the battles found within. Weaving the likes of Tool, Alice in Chains, Pink Floyd, and a unique sound of their own into a gritty, musically solid style, The Sammus Theory have found a winning formula that is knocking over the fans.

And the writing is just one piece of the puzzle. With an almost effortless finesse topped off with raw, unbridled energy, The Sammus Theory perform like a group of seasoned road veterans who have been touring for decades. The band brings a ferocity and conviction lacking in so many live shows today, leaving a lasting impression on those who see them perform. They captivate, drawing the crowd in with their on-stage parlor tricks and personas, and leave the room wanting more after they've gone.

“We're closer than most families on and off stage which is why I think we work together so well.” says Hughes. “On stage we have a chemistry that nobody else has and the crowd can feel it as much as we do.”

Locally, the band has been performing for four years and has built up an enormous following in that time. Since their formation, the band has landed shows with other hot rock acts such as The Exies, Smile Empty Soul, Adema, Shinedown, RED, Jet Black Stare and many more as well as a sixty-eight date tour across the western half of the U.S. lasting over seven months. Now the band is poised to conquer the rest of the U.S., with a nationwide tour kicking off in 2009.

Commercially, The Sammus Theory has been a featured artist on MTV2 with a video airing nation-wide daily during regular hours and on “Rock the Deuce” since March of 2008. November 2008 saw the release of their first official music video for the hit single “Pure”. The video has received an enormous amount of positive comments on the band's official MySpace page and is set to premiere on MTV sometime in the near future. Their debut album, “See (It) Through”, is slated for a 2009 release.

It would certainly appear that all the pieces are in place for The Sammus Theory. Inspiration is coming to the uninspired once more, and this band from the desert will be sure to leave its mark.
